Crown Lift

A crown lift (or crown raise) involves the removal of lower branches and/or preparing of lower branches for future removal.

Branches are removed such that a uniform height from the ground is obtained around the circumference of the tree.

Common reasons for crown lifting are to allow more light to pass beneath the tree and to provide access or sight lines for traffic. In the United Kingdom, the accepted clearance for vehicles is 5.2 metres, and 2.5 metres for pedestrians.
