Formative Pruning

Formative pruning (or structural pruning) is ideally carried out during the early years of a tree's life

This establishes a sound branch structure or desired form. Pruning a tree in the early stage of its life reduces the likelihood of decline due to over-expenditure of stored resources when sealing wounds. If the subject tree is deemed to be of good health, Hortus will carry out formative pruning to the highest standard on trees at any stage of maturity.

Hortus offer formative pruning services in a wide range of environments, such as for newly planted trees in car parks and private gardens, or as part of a scheduled council tree management strategy or woodland management plan.
